Gregory Peck (April 5, 1916 – June 12, 2003) was a two-time Academy Award-winning and four-time Golden Globe Award-winning American film actor. He was one of 20th Century Fox's most popular film stars, from the 1940s to the 1960s, and played important roles well into the 1990s. One of his most notable performances was as Atticus Finch in the 1962 film version of To Kill a Mockingbird, for which he won his Academy Award. President Lyndon Johnson honored Peck with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969 for his lifetime humanitarian efforts.[1] In 1999, the American Film Institute named Peck among the Greatest Male Stars of All Time, ranking at No. 12.

Irish-American Movie legend Gregory Peck died last night at the age of 87. The Hollywood hero, who was fiercely proud of his Irish connections, died in his home in Los Angeles. His wife of forty-eight years, Veronique, was at his side. The cause of his death has been attributed to old age. The star of the Big Country, To Kill a Mockingbird and Roman Holiday died peacefully in his sleep.

Gregory Peck was born on April 5, 1916, in La Jolla, California. He was raised by his grandmother after his parents divorced when he was five years old. Gregory attended a military school, and then attended San Diego High School. After graduation Gregory enrolled at San Diego State University. He enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley as a pre-med student. Here, he got involved in acting and appeared in five plays during his senior year.
