The evil Green Goblin is superhero Spiderman’s biggest nemesis. Arising in 1964 from the imaginative minds of the writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditco, Green Goblin is the ‘other personality’ of business tycoon, Norman Osborne. Norman obtains a serum from his partner, Dr. Mendel Stromm, whom he wrongly frames for embezzlement, that gives him incredible strength and intelligence, but with a dark downside. He turns into an overambitious sadist. He dons a green and purple, goblin-like outfit, and goes on a rampage across New York City, his power further compounded by an array of deadly weapons, such as the ‘pumpkin bomb’ and the ‘goblin glider’. Green Goblin’s plan of taking over the city’s underworld has a big impediment in the form of Spiderman, one adversary who has been thwarting all his devious plans.

In "The Wedding", Harry Osborn becomes the Green Goblin again, because he hears that his friends, Peter Parker and Mary Jane are going to get married. At the church, Harry tells the priest to make Mary Jane marry him or he will blow up the church with everyone inside it. In the end, Harry lets Mary Jane go and returns to Ravencroft after Liz Allan reveals her love for him and convinces Harry that his real friends are Mary Jane and Peter, not the Green Goblin. With his connection to Harry broken, Norman Osborn remains trapped in limbo.

Sometime later, Norman Osborn was finally revealed to the public as the Green Goblin and after an climatic battle with Spider-Man and Luke Cage that raged across Manhattan, he was finally imprisoned. However, things were far from over.
