More than 15 years since the release of their debut album, Green Day continues to rock. Not only has the group revitalized the pop-punk genre, they've continued to define its boundaries with releases like American Idiot -- the world's first punk rock opera. Recognized and admired by fans and critics alike, Green Day's powerful songs show no sign of losing their political bite.

Speaking of irony, Green Day went from 'American Idiot' to 'American Idol' Wednesday night with a surprise -- though widely rumored -- performance on the latter's season finale. While the punk vets' appearance seems to negate their anti-capitalism sentiments, Billie Joe and Co. will do whatever the hell they want, thank you very much. Especially if it means abandoning their proverbial soap box for a good cause.
