In 1948, a group of animal lovers in Greater New Haven formed The Animal Haven, Inc., an animal shelter that temporarily houses homeless cats and dogs until responsible, caring homes can be found for them. The shelter formally opened on December 27, 1957, at 89 Mill Rd. in North Haven, Connecticut. To accommodate more orphaned animals, a new state-of-the-art animal shelter opened in 2003 and houses 19 dogs and over 50 cats. Click here to see Grand Opening photos!

Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven have built the community's endowment currently valued at approximately $245 million. In 2005, The Foundation Board of Directors distributed over $14 million in grants from over 600 different named charitable funds supporting a wide range of programs and projects. The New Haven Free Public Library will be hosting a “Mardi Gras” fundraiser in celebration of their 121st birthday! A gala and silent auction will take place Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the New Haven Lawn Club.
