   David Rockefeller, the youngest son of John D. Rockefeller Jr., is making a $225 million bequest to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the foundation he and his four brothers established in 1940 as a way of pooling their philanthropic efforts. The gift is the largest the foundation has received, and if it were given today, would increase its assets, which stood at $821.8 million on Aug. 31, by roughly 27 percent.

8. Stewart Alexander -- Los Angeles
   In 1987, Stewart met a community activist in Los Angeles, Norton Halper; it was Mr. Halper that convinced Stewart to run as a candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles. Norton Halper was a community activist that was working with the Hollywood Homeowners Association; the group wanted limitations on redevelopment in Downtown Los Angeles and in Hollywood, California.

   Born in Edinburgh in 1847, Alexander Graham Bell’s family were specialists in elocution and the teaching of the deaf - both his father and his grandfather were authorities on the subject. After an education at Edinburgh and London universities Bell himself became a teacher of the deaf.
10. Henri Becquerel -- Antoine Henri Becquerel
    Antoine Henri Becquerel was from a family of eminent scientists, both his father and grandfather were prominent French physicists. In 1892 he became professor of applied physics at the Musee d'Histoire Naturelle (Museum of Natural History) in Paris, a position that both his father and grandfather had held before him. In 1895 he received an appointment at L'Ecole Polytechnique in Paris.
