Don Salvatore Leone makes his second appearance in the Grand Theft Auto series. Leone returns to the series with his girlfriend Maria, and his gang, the Leone Family. Salvatore has agreed to join forces with the Sindacco Family and run a casino in Venturas. This involves Salvatore pledging $5,000,000 to the Sindacco's, so he can't afford to let the Sindacco's screw him over. The Forelli's are ... involved, and will take advantage of any good opportunity they see to eliminate their enemies.

Unlike most of the Grand Theft Auto titles, San Andreas actually does have some multi-player capability, although they adopted an unorthodox method. As you wander around the various cities, occasionally an icon will appear rotating in mid-air of two avatars holding hands. Stepping into these icons prompts the installation of a second controller, and then instructions for the two-player mission. Definitely a good time to be had by all.

Grand Theft Auto III is an action-adventure hybrid that employs a host of different control schemes, allowing you to kick ass freely and easily while driving or on foot. From an over-the-shoulder 3rd-person view, you can move your nameless character about using the left analog stick, while the right stick lets you look around in first-person view. Holding X will allow you to sprint short distances, though you can increase your stamina through routine running. Pressing R3 while walking shifts the camera to face you, so you can see who's chasing you. Although you start out with no weapons, you're not defenseless. Jamming on the circle button near a pedestrian causes you to cut loose with a flurry of punches, kicks, knees and headbutts.
Warren Spector, a game designer for a rival company called Ion Storm, said he found the violent content of Grand Theft Auto "reprehensible" but ... beside the point. "People focus on the wrong things," he said. "The real appeal has little to do with the havoc." What the game did, Mr. Spector said, was create a virtual world where players are free to decide where to go, what to do.

The world of Grand Theft Auto 3 is a world of possibility. You can go anywhere, do anything, and beat on anyone with a baseball bat. And with all of that possibility, it's easy to get lead astray.
