Graffiti

Graffiti is the tagger's voice, their way to express themselves and to snub or tease the people in authority. Sometimes, taggers will strike with a deluge of graffiti to retaliate for news reports. Many crews will meet and then spend an entire evening putting up graffiti. Graffiti wars are ... scheduled in the early morning hours. This timing creates a problem for law enforcement, whose numbers may be smallest during these hours. Business owners are generally not present, and homeowners are usually asleep.

Numbers are written on the right side. There are currently two versions of Graffiti with the Palm operating system (OS). Graffiti 2 is provided with the newer PDAs with the 5.2+ Palm OS. With Graffiti 2 and OS 5.2+, you can write anywhere on the screen and not just in the silkscreen area.

Graffiti often has a reputation as part of a subculture that rebels against authority, although the considerations of the practitioners often diverge and can relate to a wide range of attitudes. It can express a political practice and can form just one tool in an array of resistance techniques. One early example includes the anarcho-punk band Crass, who conducted a campaign of stenciling anti-war, anarchist, feminist and anti-consumerist messages around the London Underground system during the late 1970s and early 1980s.[24]
Graffiti creates fear and costs you business and customers. The sight of graffiti can ... encourage people to commit acts of vandalism. Graffiti-filled areas often don't attract shoppers, customers, or investors. Even if your building is graffiti-free, the atmosphere in the neighborhood can impact your business.
Under this agreement, "Graffiti(R) 2 powered by Jot," will be embedded by PalmSource in current versions of its Palm OS platform provided to licensees of its operating system. The new Graffiti 2 handwriting software supports an intuitive, more natural form of input, minimizing learning time for new users and easing the transition for experienced users.

"Graffiti" is applied in art history to works of art produced by scratching a design into a surface. A related term is "sgraffito," which involves scratching through one layer of pigment to reveal another beneath it. This technique was primarily used by potters who would glaze their wares and then scratch a design into it. Graffiti and graffito are from the Italian word graffiato ("scratched"). In ancient times, graffiti was carved on walls with a sharp object, although sometimes chalk or coal were used. The Greek infinitive γράφειν - graphein - means "to write."
