Graduation: Graduation Ceremony
built 643 days ago
OU holds Commencement, the University-wide graduation ceremony, each year at the end of the spring semester to celebrate its graduates. All summer and December graduates and May graduation candidates participate in this ceremony. Degrees are officially conferred at Commencement. Filled with pageantry, this ceremony includes an address from OU President David Boren and the Commencement speaker. Doctoral degree candidates are recognized individually as they are hooded during the ceremony and undergraduate and master’s candidates are recognized as a group. The ceremony concludes with a gigantic fireworks display.

Your diploma will not be in the cover you will receive at graduation. Diplomas will be mailed within six weeks after the ceremony to those who met the application deadline. Final responsibility for meeting graduation requirements rests with the student. A "graduation check" should be requested from the Counseling Office for verification of degree(s). Subsequent to the graduation check, there will not be time to compute final grades prior to the commencement ceremony. Students who fail to meet graduation requirements must reapply for graduation for the next term.

To date there hasn't been a need to issue tickets for the graduation ceremony. However, graduates are strongly encouraged to limit their guests to four friends or family members. The afternoon time slot for graduation was chosen to allow friends and family ample time during early evening hours for a post ceremony celebration.
