Grace Jones: Paulo Goude
built 776 days ago
As one of the world’s most iconic supermodels, Grace Jones was muse to many and collaborated with some of art and fashion’s all time greats. Andy Warhol and Jean Paul Goude photographed her extensively in the Seventies and early Eighties. Keith Haring painted her for her music video “I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect for You)”. In those years, Grace Jones was a fashion trendsetter, considered one of the motivating forces behind the Eighties power suit movement.

Jones dated both the Swedish bodybuilder/actor Dolph Lundgren and Danish bodybuilder/actor Sven-Ole Thorsen in the 1980s. In February 1996, Jones was married to a bodyguard named Atila Altaunbay. She has a son named Paulo from her previous relationship with Jean-Paul Goude; Paulo is a member of French pop group La Gouache. As of 18 August 2006, she was engaged to Ivor Guest, the 4th Viscount Wimborne.

Goude choreographed Jones' infamous Halloween night 1978 show at Roseland, which involved raw meat, a Bengal tiger, and the singer dressed like a big cat. She sunk her claws into Hollywood, too, co-starring with Wilt Chamberlain and Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer and playing 007's nemesis in the Bond flick A View to a Kill. Lately, she's been taken up by young London, sitting front-row with Kate Moss at an Alexander McQueen show and accompanying Stella McCartney to a Fashion Rocks party, demure as ever in a body-hugging leotard and tuxedo jacket. "I wasn't born this way," Jones once said. "One creates oneself." And how.
