Grace Jones: James Bond
built 802 days ago
In any event, I’m a Grace Jones fan. I can’t speak on all the extra-musical stuff—I don’t read Vogue or Elle, can’t remember the Schwarzenegger movie or the James Bond one, and I’ve never been to Disneyworld—but as for the music itself, Grace’s records are always unique, funky and evocative.

In 1973, Jones played the role of Mary, a drug courier in Harlem in the film Gordon's War. Jones' work as an actress in mainstream film began with the role of Zula, the amazon in the 1984 film Conan the Destroyer alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain. Before this she appeared in low-budget films, often with sexually explicit content. She next landed the role of May Day, in the 1985 James Bond movie A View to a Kill.

It was ... around this time that Jones changed her look to suit the times by replacing her S&M look of the '70s with a detached, androgynous image. Jones' sixth solo release overall, Living My Life, followed in 1982, while the singer took a break from recording to focus on film work and landed roles in such movies as Conan the Destroyer and the James Bond flick A View to a Kill (Jones' romantic life also provided tabloid fodder at the time when she was linked with Rocky IV star Dolph Lundgren).
