Gospel music was ... the major influence on the rock singing of Ben E. King and Sam Cooke. Before turning to rock and roll Cooke had spent six years as the lead singer of the Soul Stirrers. Along with Charles, these two were the first of the 1960s soul singers—vocalists whose music was full of expressive gospellike inflections.

The McKameys It has been said that Gold City represents “A quartet that will go toe to toe with the best quartets in the history of Gospel music.” ~ Les Butler, Singing News Magazine. A new label, a new album, a new sound, new members, and powerful new momentum – It’s quite a way to start a second 25 years for Gold City. “Gold City is just a group of young men who love the music they sing – but even more than that, they love the message in the music,” said Riley definitively. “The Southern Gospel landscape has changed a lot over the last 26 years, but the message never changes. And this new generation of men is as excited as ever to be sharing it.”

Dr. Charles Fold Passes — GOSPELflava.com mourns with others the passing of Dr. Charles Fold, a trailblazer in Gospel music. Dr. Fold served as the President of the GMWA Chapter Representatives, in addition to his longstanding service of musical ministry with The Charles Fold Singers, who have recorded over twelve albums, garnering four Grammy nominations and a Grammy award in 1981. Dr. Fold was a longtime collaborator with the late Rev. James Cleveland, together presenting songs such as "Jesus Is The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" and "Lord, Let Me Be An Instrument". Dr. Fold transitioned to glory on the morning of April 7, 2006, after a period of failing health. There will be a concert celebrating Dr. Fold's life on April 21, 2006 at Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati at 7 PM, following the wake (5 PM to 7 PM), with Home Going services on the morning of April 22. (revised April 10, 2006)

The roots of gospel music are not well documented. Early recordings were lost. Stories behind the songs weren't written down. A new book recounts the history of the beloved American art form.
