Google News is offering RSS feeds. Sure, you can get feeds for the expected topics -- world, U.S. news, sports, science/technology, etc. -- but you can ... set up a personalized feed based on keywords. [Read More]
Google News and Yahoo News are the two largest news aggregators (and news search engines) in the world. Both Google and Yahoo earn their money mainly through advertising, and these websites have so much traffic and so many page views that any downtime they have will be very expensive since it becomes the equivalent of lost advertising revenue.
Google News has a policy of only accepting news sources run by accountable corporations. In other words, no to news sources run by individuals. So if you have a registered corporation/company – LLC, Ltd, etc – then ensure you have an about section on the news source that clearly shows it run by the company, not an individual. In that regard, it’s probably good practice to ensure you carry a disclaimer and privacy policy on the site as well, both for quality assurances, and ... distance your business from editorial policy.

Google News has reportedly confirmed they have removed Indymedia from their list of news sources. Why you ask? Apparently Google bowed to pressure brought upon them by an email campaign organized by people who disagree with some of what gets posted under IndyMedia's policy of allowing anyone to post to the newswire, and not exerting editorial control. People are claiming IndyMedia is "anti-semitic", because of trolls who sometimes post hateful posts on the unedited, user-supplied newswire. Check out the thread on Little Green Footballs or Silent Running or this one at Yourish.com. Inexplicably, Yourish points to this mailing list posting as proof of IndyMedia's "anti-semitism".

Google News: The new Google news developed out of a program Krishna Bharat at Google developed for his own use. Now editors and journalists either quake or delight in its ability to bring together related articles on a subject. Bharat said, "It will broaden people's perspectives. They will be able to understand news from multiple sources [and become] more informed. Searches ... avoid bias. Machines do that very well".
Google News is highly unusual in that it offers a news service compiled solely by computer algorithms without human intervention. While the sources of the news vary in perspective and editorial approach, their selection for inclusion is done without regard to political viewpoint or ideology. While this may lead to some occasionally unusual and contradictory groupings, it is exactly this variety that makes Google News a valuable source of information on the important issues of the day.
