Goggles takes map data from Google Maps, overlaying a little biplane over it. It's not really a mapping tool, as much as it is a game. Pull back to zoom out, divebomb to zoom in, being careful not to crash into the ground. Hitting the spacebar makes your plane fire, but there's nothing to shoot at, yet. Alright, so that means its not really a game. But it's a nice way to explore a city from your desk. TGIF!

Now, though, a virtual trip through New Orleans via Google Maps is a surreal experience of scrolling across an unscathed landscape of packed parking lots and marinas full of boats. Reality, of course, is very different: Entire neighborhoods are now slab mosaics where houses once stood and shopping malls, churches and marinas are empty of life, many gone altogether.

The recent introduction of Microsoft Vista and a slew of other 3D-optimized applications, including Google Maps and Microsoft Office 2007, has redefined customers' expectations for experiencing visually-rich mainstream applications on their home and business PCs. As a result, consumers have now made the GPU a primary requirement in their PC purchasing decisions. As the only independent GPU provider, NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) is well positioned to capitalize on this emerging trend, and is proud to announce that it has extended its family of GeForce 7-Series motherboard graphics processing units (mGPUs) to Intel processor-based PCs. Starting today, GeForce graphics are more affordable and accessible than ever before for Intel customers.

Google Maps mashup Mezzoman finds the perfect meet-up point for two addresses by establishing the midpoint and suggesting restaurants by cuisine nearby. Finding a good meet-up spot can be a bit difficult, and at one point or another you've probably felt you're getting the short end of the stick by driving the lion's share of the distance to the meet-up point. Mezzoman aims to rid you of that headache, and suggests places you could meet and eat (or bowl) near that midpoint. The only feature missing is pins marking the two addresses you're starting from, but in all it's a simple webapp that does just what it says.

The weather mapplet for Google Maps enables users to add customizable weather layers to their map. Options include clouds and radar and points of interest, such as US and international cities and airports and US golf courses, lakes and schools. When selected, a bubble will appear at the point on the map with current weather conditions and temperature displayed. If there is severe weather for a point of interest, the bubble will be displayed in red with details of the alert.
