Google Earth is a map of the world on steroids. You can zoom and glide over stitched together satellite photos of the world. Use Google Earth to find driving directions, find nearby restaurants, measure the distance between two locations, do serious research, or go on virtual vacations.

Google Earth introduced in September 2006 new functionality that allows one to map events against time. Clearly this is the ideal way to view the spread of avian flu worldwide, so all future versions of the flu maps will use this. To view the new maps you will need the latest beta 4 time-enabled version of Google Earth. After you have installed this, the new link for the time-enabled maps is here.

The Google Earth user can control when to switch to Sky mode, using the View > Switch to Sky menu option or the Sky button in the user interface. When the user switches to Sky mode, Google Earth transitions to show the sky above the user's current location on Earth (the zenith). It is as if the user is standing at the center of the Earth's sphere, looking outward toward the heavens. The celestial data is mapped onto the inside of a virtual sphere that surrounds the Earth.

In the new release of Google Earth, there's an exciting feature that lets you dynamically load geographical data in from other sources. They even have an markup language for it called KML. People have already started putting Flickr photos ontop of the maps.
