Goodyear Tires: Companies
built 233 days ago
As a multinational corporation, Goodyear expanded from being a rubber and tire maker into other fields of business. In 1956, the company started operating a nuclear processing facility in Ohio. In the 1970s, the company formed a unit called Goodyear Aerospace Corporation, which evolved from the Goodyear Aircraft Company that designed and produced aircraft, including the space shuttle. Like all other companies, Goodyear spent considerable amount of time and money to convert its initial Akron plant into a research and design Technical Center. In 1979, Goodyear ventured into computer designing by making the design for a supercomputer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Goddard Spaceflight Center.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is sponsoring a media blitz to promote its latest tire, which has more bells and whistles than your new Dell Laptop. The high-performance Eagle tire, featuring ResponsEdge Technology, will offer drivers comfort and performance with a sporty look. According to TireRack.com, “there's more than just size involved in picking new treads. Some of today’s tires incorporate advanced materials, like carbon fiber and Kevlar, normally found in bulletproof vests.” The new Eagle offers just that and more. First, it features a carbon fiber reinforced sidewall which stiffens the outer sidewall for more response. Carbon fiber is a light and strong material usually reserved for the many forms of racing.
As part of the agreement, Goodyear will make running history by literally putting its mark on the race course. The marathon's "blue line" that leads runners through the race's 26.2 miles will be painted in the pattern of the company's signature TripleTred(TM) Technology tread pattern. This event is believed to be the first time in the history of road racing that a marathon line has featured a branded design. The pattern will be seen by the 15,000 runners and more than 100,000 spectators anticipated to be in attendance on race day. The race will be held in and around the city of Philadelphia on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Goodyear is the world's largest tire company and manufactures and markets tires for most applications. The company has more than 80,000 associates worldwide. And it all began in a converted strawboard factory on the banks of the Little Cuyahoga River in Akron, Ohio.
