Located at the doorstep of New York City, the Meadowlands Golf Project will turn polluted landfills into golf courses, lush open space and a pedestrian-friendly village of shopping, upscale homes and luxurious hotels. The project will be one of the largest and most recognized brownfield redevelopment projects in the United States.

The Parks and Recreation Department provides seven challenging public golf courses for citizens' enjoyment, and a "First Tee" youth program at FM Law Park. From Memorial Park, one of the highest rated municipal courses in the state, to the well maintained and lower priced Brock and Gus Wortham Parks, Houston municipal golf courses offer a diverse range of venues from which to choose. Memorial, Hermann, and Gus Wortham are all located inside the Loop (see map below). Sharpstown, one of Houston's most popular courses, is close in on the Southwest side. Melrose and Brock Park offer golfing opportunities for the North and Northeast sides of Houston. While Glenbrook provides a venue for the Southeast area of the city.

Forest Akers is home to two great golf courses, a learning center, driving range, short game facility and two golf shops. The West Course is the home of the Michigan State University golf teams and hosts tournaments for both the men's and women's team annually. Many of the games' best players have been challenged on this course.

Audubon International today announced that Chambers Bay is the first golf course to become certified as a Silver Signature Sanctuary in the state of Washington and in the Pacific Northwest. Signature certification is awarded only to new developments that are designed, constructed and maintained according to Audubon International's precise planning standards and environmental disciplines. The focus of the Signature Program is to promote sound land management practices and appropriate land use changes based on sound scientific research.

When the phrases golf courses and golf course destinations are heard, a mental image of St. Andrew or Pinehurst or Palm Springs probably comes to mind. People normally recognize states like Florida, California and Georgia as "golf course states."
