Golden Triangle real estate has a character partially influenced by its proximity to the distinctly angular Frederick Hamilton building of the Denver Art Museum. The neighborhood is located just south of downtown with Speer Boulevard as the western border, Broadway as the eastern border and Colfax Avenue as the northern border.

In addition to the Golden Triangle, Thistle has identified a new exploration project, which has been named the ‘Massives’ project at President Steyn number 3 shaft. The project can be accessed from the existing shaft at a depth of 1,500 metres, some 300 metres shallower than the existing operations in the Basal Reef. Historically, Anglo Vaal, the original owners of the shaft, mined in the same area using bulk mining techniques in seams 19 metres thick, dipping at 70 degrees. The initial phase of exploration; to the end of the current financial year, calls for the drilling of 54 underground boreholes to a depth of 50 metres. This will be followed up by a more detailed programme in the next financial year. At this stage only 1 per cent of the current reserve base is attributable to this project so there would seem to be much to go for.

The downtown area, known as the Golden Triangle, includes Gateway Center, a landscaped hub of office and hotel space. Pittsburgh is the seat of the Carnegie-Mellon Univ., the Univ. of Pittsburgh, Chatham College, Duquesne Univ., Carlow College, and an experiment station of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts and neighboring theaters, the Carnegie Institute's art and natural history museums, the Carnegie Library, and the Andy Warhol Museum are noteworthy. On the Univ. of Pittsburgh campus is a memorial hall dedicated to Stephen Foster , who was born (1826) in Lawrenceville, now part of the city.
