The Gobi is one of the vastest deserts on earth. But it is not a desert in a usual sense: Mongolians distinguish 33 types of desert to soil composition, vegetation and color. Although it accounts for the 3rd of Mongolia’s territory, sandy deserts make up 3% of the entire Gobi desert. it is a land of wide variety of landscapes, rich animal and plant life. Moreover, about a quarter of the countries population live in the Gobi desert.

Drive to "Hongoryn" Els sands dunes (Singing Sands) to see the biggest sand dunes of Gobi desert and the wildlife of the area. It is biggest sand dunes in Mongolia and lasts 200kms and app. 40-50 ms high. Has an extraordinary length of 180 kms and 15-20 m. Visit the sand dunes. Camel Safari. On March 15, 2002, in northern China (right) and southern Mongolia (left), a dust storm whipped up sand in the Gobi Desert, giving the entire top portion of the image a pockmarked, or dimpled, appearance. The airborne dust stretched as far south as the Huang He, China9s Yellow River, which can be seen flowing in from bottom left and veering eastward under a thin bank of clouds.
