Amateur archeologists and paleontologists will love the Gobi Desert, as well. Dinosaur bones are scattered all over the Gobi. You can often see these bones littering the plains. Visitors can spend time digging for these ancient animal remains.

This great desert country of Gobi is crossed by several trade routes, some of which have been in use for thousands of years. Among the most important are those from Kalgan on the frontier of China to Ulaanbaatar ( km ( mi)), from Suzhou (in Gansu) to Hami km ( mi) from Hami to Beijing ( km ( mi)), from Kwei-hwa-cheng (or Kuku-khoto) to Hami and Barkul, and from Lanzhou (in Gansu) to Hami.

Bellows and the winning student will join Travcoa guests on the "Mongolia and the Gobi Desert" journey in July 2008. They will visit the century-old Naadam Festival; camp in and learn to build traditional felt gers; meet Mongolian families; and search for dinosaur fossils.
