Glenn Wool is a Canadian stand-up comedian now living in the United Kingdom. His material veers between sagely political and gleefully silly, discussing both the pop group Franz Ferdinand and the Pope's contribution to cryrogenics programmes during his time onstage. Wool starred in a self-titled show produced for Channel 4's "comedy lab" season in 2004. The show saw him attempting to exorcise a ghost from his place of residence.
Glenn Wool has been classed as the hottest rising star in stand-up comedy, since he took Edinburgh Fringe audiences by storm with his edgy, incisive material. Critical acclaim has fast scored Wool the big gigs including Glastonbury (UK) and Kilkenny Comedy Festival (Ireland). Melbourne Comedy Festival will be Wool's first appearance in Australia - not to be missed!
Glenn Wool has turned over a new leaf. He’s quit drink and drugs, gone to marriage counselling, and started praying (to all the gods, including the atheist god). He still has the 70s porn star tash though, celebrated in a hilarious video moustache montage that kicks off the show.
Glenn Wool Canadian comic Glenn Wool is just one of the top names performing at the Clair Hall Comedy Club this month. Glenn will be joined on Thursday 15 March by fellow gagsmiths Kevin McCarthy and Jimmy McGhie. Doors open at 7.30pm with the performance commencing at 8pm. Tickets are available now priced at £8 for adults and £6 concessions. To book in advance, call Clair Hall box office on 01444 455440.
Wool is an engaging comedian with a slightly rambling style which draws his audience in like confidantes. But he is ... a cleverly subversive comedian, because behind his shaggy hangdog looks and his apparently homespun humour lies a sharp intelligence which is slowly and quietly hitting the mark on several of the important issues of the day. Wool tackles homophobia, religious fundementalism and current world politics and does it in such a way that you hardly notice that that is what you are listening to. Not hardcore political comedy, but maybe all the more effective for being presented in a language the average layman can understand.
Glenn is a World renowned comedian who began his career in Vancouver, Canada in 1993. Since then he has played every major comedy festival in Europe and is a regular on the UK live comedy circuit including support gigs with the likes of Ed Byrne and nights at the prestigious Comedy Stores in London and Manchester and the Jongleurs Comedy Clubs, and has appeared in several comedy programmes for Channel 4, Paramount Comedy Channel and the BBC.
