Glasses: People
built 208 days ago
Most people know little or nothing about pinhole glasses. The reason for this is that the eye doctors and the optical industry make a determined effort to keep them out of the hands of the public. They have even pressured the US government to conduct armed raids on pinhole suppliers and destroy their inventory. They see inexpensive pinholes as a threat to the lucrative business of selling overpriced prescription glasses and sunglasses. That is why you do not find pinholes for sale in optical stores. Now you can buy them here.

People wear glasses for several reasons. People who have "fuzzy" vision when they look at distant objects are called nearsighted (myopic). In these people, the image is focused in front of the retina. The lens of glasses needed to correct vision in nearsighted people is concave. People who need glasses for reading and who have "fuzzy" vision for objects close to them are called farsighted (hyperopia). In farsighted people, objects are focused behind the retina.

In popular culture, glasses were all the disguise Superman and Wonder Woman needed to hide in plain view as alter egos Clark Kent and Diana Prince, respectively. An example of halo effect is seen in the stereotype that those who wear glasses are intelligent or, especially in teen culture, even geeks and nerds. Some people who find that wearing glasses may look nerdy turn to contact lenses instead, especially under peer pressure. Others turn to laser eye surgery, as do some would-be pilots.

The need for reading glasses typically emerges when people enter their 40s, when the natural lens loses its ability to focus. Cataracts, which affect most people by the time they enter their 70s, cause a blurring of the eye's natural lens. Multifocal lenses correct both problems, but they aren't a guaranteed fix. A small percentage of people may continue to need glasses occasionally for close work or night-time driving.
