The epicentre of Glasgow shopping is the so-called "Golden Z", made up of the largely pedestrianised thoroughfares of Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street. Here, virtually all of the big name retailers are represented, with some of the stores being second only to their Oxford Street counterparts in London in terms of size.

Glasgow Bed & Breakfast The Devoncove Hotel in Glasgow is home to 73 elegant well-appointed bedrooms. By late 2008, guests will be able to enjoy state-of-the art private leisure facilities incorporating an exercise suite and Jacuzzi. The hotel will ... be celebrating the launch of a new restaurant within the premises during the same period.
Glasgow grew rapidly during this era. By the 1600 century Glasgow probably had a population of 7,000. By the 1700 it was about 12,000. In 1626 a new tollbooth was built. It was demolished in 1812 except for the steeple. In 1649 a writer called Glasgow 'one of the most considerable burghs of Scotland as well for buildings as for the trade'.
In 1957 the University of Glasgow entered the history books as the first university in Scotland to have an electronic computer. Today, the Department of Computing Science is one of the foremost in the UK, setting itself the highest standards in research and teaching.
The early lease termination of the Glasgow, Scotland CMC will result in an impairment charge of approximately $2.5 million that will be recorded in the Company's second quarter 2005 financial statements. This action is expected to result in an annualized pre-tax profit improvement of at least $2.5 million beginning in the third quarter 2006.

In general ... driving in Glasgow's central area should be avoided if you are not absolutely sure of where you are going, with its maze of one way systems, bus lanes and pedestrian precincts. Glaswegians are not the most patient drivers in the world and particularly dislike hesitancy (taxi drivers being the worst culprits). Parking restrictions are strictly enforced, and vehicles parked illegally or in an obstructive manner will be towed away and the owner of the vehicle will be liable for a £150 release charge to recover it.
