The Gladiator is a great example of of the Roman Empire. Although the characters may not be real, this movie portrays how the Romans seeked for glory and what they enjoyed as entertainment. The movie ... shows the government in Rome. This movie is very similar to the real Rome because Rome was always expanding. In the begining of the Gladiator , a war is going on with Rome and the people .Maximus ( the great general ) is conquering to exand the Empire. This scene brings to mind Alexander the Great.

The fiercely proud Gladiator is the leader, or praetor, of the Imperial Guard, a multi-ethnic group of super-powered alien beings who act as enforcers of the laws of the Shi'ar Empire. Gladiator was amongst the first of the Imperial Guard encountered by the team of superhuman mutant adventurers known as the X-Men who sought to rescue the Princess-Majestrix Lilandra from her insane brother, then-Majestor D'ken. Following the orders of their emperor, the Guard clashed with the X-Men and were on the verge of winning when the band of interstellar freebooters known as the Starjammers arrived to turn the tide of battle in the X-Men's favor.

If Gladiator has anything to recommend it, it is the performances. Russell Crowe is excellent as Maximus, as are Joaquin Phoenix as Commodus, Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, and Richard Harris as Marcus Aurelius. Crowe, in particular seems headed for superstardom. But good as the actors are, and they are all VERY good, the movie itself isn't worthy of them. Pity.
While the story might forego Hollywood's traditional tropes, Gladiator has the sort of costumes and production design that only come from a budget approaching $100 million. The opening battle scene is a stunning melange of helmets, armor, and swords of all kinds. The emperor's palace is lush and fabulous; and the digital recreation of the Coliseum is suitably spectacular. Scott's palette of grays and browns is appropriate and beautiful.

Originally released in the U.S. in May 2000, "Gladiator" immediately became the first must-see film of last summer. It went on to gross more than $187 million at the domestic box office, in addition to becoming an unqualified hit globally. To date, the film has earned more than $440 million worldwide. Its subsequent sell-through release in a Special Edition DVD, as well as the VHS rental release, broke records both in the United States and abroad. Earlier this year, "Gladiator" won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture -- Drama. It more recently received 12 Academy Award(R) nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Scott) and Best Actor (Crowe), and this past weekend won the BAFTA Award for Best Picture.
The Gladiator concept takes yet another stab at a Jeep pickup, and this appears a logical and easy-to-produce machine. Its engine is a 163-horsepower, 295-pound-foot turbodiesel (specs virtually equal to the new Liberty CRD's 2.8-liter four) with part-time four-wheel drive. With a 138-inch wheelbase, its dimensions are close to those of the midsize Dodge Dakota pickup. It's ... described as a concept, but it clearly gives clues to the design direction of the 2007 Wrangler. Jeep used the Gladiator name on a pickup built from 1963 to 1969. Despite the Wrangler/Liberty styling themes, Chrysler says the Gladiator's platform is unique.
