Gilgamesh was formed in the autumn of 1972. It split up in late 1975, shortly after the release of its debut album. It was revived sometime in 1977 for occasional rehearsals which led to the recording of the second album in the summer of 1978.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his resistance to injury, it was possible to injure Gilgamesh. However, if Gilgamesh retained psionic control over his body, he could, eventually, regenerate any damaged or destroyed bodily tissue.

Gilgamesh is easily recognized because of his garish clothing, all-talk attitude and grey complexion. He has many arms, in which he holds an arsenal of different weapons. For the early part of Final Fantasy V, and in most of his appearances in the remakes, Gilgamesh does not appear in this form; it is only after he morphs that his true appearance is revealed.

Utanapishtim told Gilgamesh his story of how Ea came to him in a dream and and told him to build an ark take his family, craftsman and two of every animal board with him. After it stopped raining he let some birds go and when one didn’t come back he knew that it had found a place to land.

Gilgamesh was later kidnapped by the Avengers' archenemy Immortus, posing as the time-traveling villain Kang. As part of Immortus' ruse as Kang, he allowed Gilgamesh to be killed by the underling Neut.

Utanapishtim tells Gilgamesh he must posses strength of a god to live forever. He must remain awake seven days and six nights. Gilgamesh falls asleep, and Utanapishtim’s wife baked a loaf of bread to prove he was asleep.
