Gibson (Gibson, Bob - Player): Kirk Gibson
built 256 days ago
Not many players are drafted by two different teams, in two different sports but Kirk Gibson is one of those players who were. He played both football and baseball in college and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals; he ultimately chose to play baseball. He played right field for the Tigers and helped them to the World Series in 1984, which they ended up winning. After becoming an immediate free agent in 1988, Gibson signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Bobby Thomson, Kirk Gibson or Derek Jeter -- which one survives Jeff Probst's online tribal council? In a parody of his role as host of "Survivor," Probst has created a spot for actober.com, which is produced by Major League Baseball.

During the 1988 World Series, Kirk Gibson hit a home-run that to this day is still talked about. Although he had injured his leg during the league championship series and wasn’t expected to play, he came up to pinch hit during game 1. He got to full count during his at bat and hit a home run over the right field fence; his home run helped the dodgers win that game when fans had been leaving the stadium because they thought the team would lose.
