famous ghosts Ghosts may not only be people. In 16 41 the Flying Dutchman was sailing around the Cape of Good Hope on its way to Holland. Its captain was a man called Henrik Vanderdecken. A huge storm blew up but the captain was so desperate to get home that he cursed God and swore that he would sail until Doomsday rather than stop. For these words against God he was doomed to sail forever until he could find another ship's captain to accept a letter from him which begged for the Lord's forgiveness. This has never happened and it is said that any ship that comes into contact with the Flying Dutchman will suffer a terrible fate.
Video Haunted House Ghost monk Ghosts may be the result of human emotions that have been projected during traumatic events. Events involving grisly deaths, prolonged tragic circumstances and drama are likely to leave behind a ghost imprint. A ghost is therefore like a photographic record that is occasionally visible to 'sensitive' people. They are seen like a film clip from the past sometimes with the same scene repeating in the same spot. What is seen is certainly not a conscious spirit trapped in a time warp and repeating the same task for eternity. It is the energy of history.

Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts surprises modern audiences with some of the issues that it discusses, including out-of-wedlock children, venereal disease, incest, infidelity, and euthanasia. It is the story of a woman, Mrs. Alving, who is preparing for the opening of an orphanage in memory of her husband, Captain Alving, on the tenth anniversary of his death. The captain was an important and respected man in his community, and Mrs. Alving plans to raise this one great memorial to him so that she will not have to ever again speak of him. She wants to avoid the awful truth: that he was a cheating, immoral philanderer whose public reputation was a sham. Their son Oswald has come home from Paris with the news that he is dying of syphilis, which he contracted in the womb, and planning to marry the family’s maid. He hopes that she can nurse him as his illness progresses, and Mrs. Alving has to tell him that the maid is actually Captain Alving’s illegitimate daughter.

Ghosts are prominent in the popular cultures of various nations. The ghost story is ubiquitous across all cultures from oral folktales to works of literature. Perhaps the most recognizable ghost in English literature is the shade of Hamlet's father in the play The Tragical History of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. In Hamlet, it is the ghost that encourages the title character to investigate his "murder most foul" and seek revenge upon King Claudius, the suspected murderer of Hamlet's father. Possibly the next most famous apparitions are the ghosts of A Christmas Carol, where the ghost of Jacob Marley, The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come help Ebenezer Scrooge see the error of his ways. Oscar Wilde's The Canterville Ghost has been adapted for film and television on several occasions.

The Playground Ghosts were formed on November 15, 2005 when an ecclectic group of five webcomics joined together to share a forum of readers. Eventually that community expanded into conventions and collaborations. The original group consisted of Chris Dlugosz (Pixel), Steve Hogan (Acid Keg), David Malki ! (Wondermark), Colleen AF Venable (Fluff in Brooklyn), and Chris Yates (Reprographics).
From Beyond: Werewolves & Apparitions. Ghosts usually seem to be tied to the places in which their beings lived and suffered — it is rare for there to be no apparent connection between a place and an attendant apparition — and to be universally unhappy. Indeed, so rare is contentment in the world of apparitions that to speak of a happy ghost seems a contradiction in terms.
