Ghost Squad

Ghost Squad is a fun but short game for anyone who likes pure arcade-style light-gun shooters. However games like Medal of Honor and Resident Evil beat it in terms of graphics and content. Still, at $30, Ghost Squad is a good game to go along with your new Wii Zapper. Fans of this game should ... be on the lookout for Sega’s upcoming port of House of the Dead 2 and 3 on Wii, a similar game with a similar price.

At the core, Ghost Squad is a pure and simple light-gun shooter. It has all the classics: weapon powerups, point-and-shoot gameplay, and stupid AI. The idea behind most of these arcade-style games is to make them pretty challenging, but not too long; they want to suck up a lot of quarters without you hogging the machine all day. While the first play-through lasts only around an hour, there are multiple versions of the main game that'll change up certain elements, like spawn points and weapons, that create a new feel for another run. While this gives it a bit more single-player replay value, it doesn't offer quite the diversity of, say, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

Most Ghost Squad cabinets in the United States do not have card slots. However, players have immediate access to four costumes, four guns, and the first four mission levels. Cabinets which are card-ready are sometimes notorious to having the card slots clogged by excess coins.

Terrorists are out to shoot the President and hijack his Air Force One, so you as a member of the ultra-special, special ops good guys (the Ghost Squad) have to stop them. Through a rudimentary plot (with appalling script) you battle out through buildings and scenarios designed to test your reflexes not your grey matter. It's all good clean point and shoot fun with a surprising level of difficulty. There are a few hostages to free on the way, a few bombs to diffuse but the core is the light-gun (sorry, light-remote) action.

Developed by SEGA’s AM2 arcade division, Ghost Squad became a smash hit upon release and was the top-earning arcade gun game in 2005 for SEGA’s arcade division. The Wii version brings the arcade experience home and adds a number of new Wii-specific gameplay modes and features. The game features the use of the Wii Remote™ as a multi-purpose tool that allows players to easily control the targeting of on-screen enemies, defuse bombs, and rescue hostages. The battle to eradicate global threats in Ghost Squad begins Holiday 2007. With a squad of three others, players will traverse three different mission areas each comprised of multiple levels, unlocking 25 high-powered weapons as they progress. Within each level there are a series of selectable alternate routes that will provide the gamer with increasing challenges as enemies attack from unexpected places.

Amy , The Ghost Squad ’s newest recruit, is thrown in at the deep end investigating a team of cops who’ve been working undercover for months, tracking a network of sex traffickers. But Amy’s boss, Detective Chief Superintendent Carol McKay believes that one or more of the team have changed allegiances. The team, headed by DI Mike Pearce, are expecting a hidden consignment of 30 young Eastern European girls to be shipped into enforced prostitution. The cops work is dangerous and extreme, and Amy can’t help but be impressed by the level of self-sacrifice these officers are making in order to maintain their covers. For Amy, this is policing like she’s never seen before. In fact Mike, Kate (Donna Alexander) and Billy (Brooks Livermore) are so deep undercover Amy can never be absolutely sure which side they’re on. McKay watches Amy’s personal engagement with this team with a growing unease.
