Ghost Squad: Games
built 201 days ago
Overall, Ghost Squad is an interesting prospect for potential Wii Zapper owners. It's not ambitious or even particularly new anymore, but it has a certain old-school charm that should appeal to arcade shooter fans. The game is set for release on the 25th of October in Japan, and is tentatively scheduled for Q4 in the US and Europe.
Ghost Squad (Wii) Unsurprisingly, Ghost Squad is very much from the Virtua Cop stable. It’s all on-rails shooting, without the Time Crisis style duck button. Flicking the Nunchuk analogue changes your fire mode from single shot to semi-automatic, to uzi-like full-on autofire – the latter of which has a bullet count, adding a degree of tactics to when you’ll want to break out the proverbial big guns. Moreover, shooting up the environment will see ammo and health power-ups appear, while the addition of bomb defusals, sniping and hostage rescue serve to diversify Ghost Squad’s compelling shooter gameplay.

Yes, Ghost Squad has a dual wielding feature, if you accept 'just playing the two-player game by yourself' as a kind of dual wielding. It looks fun... it's achieved. It also has a number of other newly-announced features that may be of interest to light-gun game enthusiasts.
SEGA's top-grossing light gun game, Ghost Squad, comes to the Wii system and replicates the excitement of the arcade experience in your home! The Ghost Squad is a Special Forces unit established in strict secrecy by the U.N. to combat terrorism and carry out special highly-classified missions without leaving a trace. As an elite member of the Ghost Squad, players will complete dangerous missions such as eliminating terrorist groups, releasing hostages, deactivating bombs, and even rescuing the U.S. President when terrorists hijack Air Force One! Using the Wii Remote, players will utilize revolutionary selectable weapons including a high-powered rifle, submachine gun and shotgun, or even engage in hand-to-hand combat. Features: Unlock 25 different tactical weapons including sniper and assault rifles, submachine guns, handguns, and more.

Beyond the game's disappointing single-player campaign, Ghost Squad ... offers an ineffectual Training Mode for Wii Remote acclimatisation and also a Party Mode, which allows up to four players to take on the game's missions cooperatively. Party Mode also tries to tempt players into return visits through the promise of two hidden game modes - chances are you won't care enough to seek them out. Also, depending on player performance during the single-player mode, extra weaponry and costume types can be unlocked - yet another thinly veiled and unappealing lure placed to bring players back to the start for another run through.
Ghost Squad Screenshots Ghost Squad isn't necessarily a must-own release for the Wii, but it is a tremendously entertaining game nonetheless, especially with co-op support for up to four players. The initially light content offering shows its depth as additional playthroughs are completed and content is unlocked. The Zapper compatibility issues are relatively minor, especially if you've got a decent amount of space between your play area and your media center. At $50 Ghost Squad would be a total bust; but it's $30, a great buy at that price. Add this one to your Zapper purchase to get two games and the new peripheral for the cost of a single full-tilt Wii release. And if all of this isn't enough to sell you on Ghost Squad, don't forget: there's an unlockable Ninja Mode.
