The economy has performed well under the Kufuor administration, but Ghana's fundamental vulnerabilities remain. The new administration continued the economic stabilization begun under the previous administration, and has taken some difficult but necessary steps such as ending subsidies of petroleum prices. Solid macroeconomic management coupled with major debt relief, large inflows of donor resources, and relatively high cocoa and gold prices have been the keys to the steady improvements in real GDP growth, which in 2004 topped 5% for the first time in a decade and reached an estimated 6.2% in 2006. Further debt relief, continued large aid inflows, favorable commodity prices, and $4 billion in gross annual remittances--this figure includes remittances from individuals as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and embassies; individual remittances were estimated at about $1.8 billion in 2006--put Ghana in a stronger balance of payments position.

During the 10th and 11th centuries A.D., Ghana's fame grew and it is described in some detail by geographers and compilers of travelers' tales at that time. In these writings, Ghana is depicted as a great military power which could put "200,000 warriors in the field, more than 40,000 being armed with bow and arrow." The king, it was said, controlled the flow of gold from the south, and the traffic of salt from the north.

Ghana borders Togo, Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). VanefSTC buses can take you to the borders of all three countries, and it's best to make enquiries about schedules and routes when you're in Accra.
The climate of Ghana is tropical. The eastern coastal belt is warm and dry, while the southwest corner is hot and humid. There are two distinct rainy seasons in the south, while in the north, these two rainy seasons tend to merge.
The exploration and development team on both the Prestia Property and the Ho Chrome Property consists of several experienced Canadian miners and mining engineers who will be in day-to-day charge of operations in Ghana. The geological team will be under the direction of Dr. Johnson Manu. Dr. Manu is a Ghanaian geologist and author of widely referenced publications on the Birimian gold belt. Dr. Manu is a senior lecturer in geology at the University of Ghana. Dr. Manu was primarily responsible for acquiring these two projects on the Prestia Property and the Ho Chrome Property now under option from Newhaven Resources Inc., where he serves as a director.
