  1. Get Carter
By far, the most entertaining moment on the DVD of "Get Carter" is the hilariously outdated 1971 theatrical preview for the original version of the film, which starred Michael Caine. (Caine does appear in this Stallone update.) Sadly, this update stinks. Sylvester Stallone's Jack Carter, a Las Vegas button man, skips town without his boss's permission and heads up to his old stomping grounds in Seattle to investigate the mysterious death of his brother, whom he hasn't seen in five years. That's the pitch.
  2. Beverly Hills Cop -- Axel Foley
Axel is arrested for disturbing the peace by the Beverly Hills police and taken to the station, where he is questioned by Sergeant John Taggart (John Ashton) and Det. Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold). Taggart takes issue with Axel's irreverence and punches him in the stomach. Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox) steps in to reprimand Taggart and presses Axel further, adding that he has spoken to Inspector Todd back in Detroit, who hints that Axel will be fired if he finds out that Axel is investigating Mikey's death.
  3. Spying -- Warrants
In 2004 on the campaign trail, Bush promised his supporters he wasn't spying without warrants. This turned out to be a flat out lie. When did lying on the campaign trail become acceptable? Once it's been proven that a candidate Lied to get elected, shouldn't that alone be enough to toss him out of office?
  4. Credit Card Fraud -- Credit Card Numbers
There are ... programs that generate valid credit card numbers out of thin air. All valid card numbers end with a "check-sum" digit that's generated from the credit card's other digits, by something called the Mod-10 algorithm.
  5. Harriet Quimby -- Flights
When Harriet arrived on July 1, 1912, William Willard, the event organizer, and his son, Charles, tossed a coin to see who would win the privilege of a flight with Harriet. Willard Senior won the toss and climbed into the passenger seat, casually appointing Earle Ovington as Manger of the meet in case he met with an accident. After a routine flight out to the Boston Light, Harriet circled over the Neponset River and Dorchester Bay as thousands of spectators watched.
  6. Halloween Customs -- Apples
Halloween customs and traditions are explained in the next chapter. This includes explanations of where trick-or-treat came from, jack-o-lanterns, and dressing up in costumes. Tales are included for Halloween storytelling, and short poems and quotes are ... reported to add to the fun. The next chapter discusses Halloween symbols and superstitions, such as black cats, scarecrows, skeletons and vampires. All the scary motifs of Halloween are illustrated and the reader leans about the origins and history of each symbol. Various methods of fortune-telling, one fun Halloween activity, are shown in the chapter on Halloween divinations, and include procedures that use apples and pumpkin seeds.
  7. Nashville Predators -- Gaylord Entertainment Center
Fans of the Nashville Predators have created their own unique tradition to show their support: on occasion, a fan will throw a catfish onto the ice. The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville cites the first instance of this on October 30, 2003. The Predators were facing the Detroit Red Wings at the Gaylord Entertainment Center, and a fan managed to toss the raw fish over the glass and onto the ice in celebration of Nashville's first goal of the contest, which the Predators ultimately won. The fan's fish-toss set a precedent, and fans smuggle the catfish into the arena (likely by keeping them up against their skin, as security searches bags but doesn't frisk fans) and fling the fish onto the ice, often in celebration of the Predators' first goal of the game. In fact, at least four catfish wound up on the ice after the first Nashville goal in a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames on November 13th, 2003. Fans who get caught throwing anything onto the ice are escorted out of the arena, yet it doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent—this tradition continues on occasion even now.
  8. Pikmin -- Purple Pikmin
In the first Pikmin game, a mushroom-shaped enemy called a Puffstool releases spores when threatened. Pikmin caught in the spore cloud turn purple (but not the same as the purple Pikmin in Pikmin 2), grow mushroom caps, and turn on Captain Olimar. These defective Pikmin are called Toadmin and will recover quickly (but are often bombarded with more spores). In Pikmin 2, Antenna Beetles are able to emit a disorienting whistle which temporarily assumes control of the Pikmin it reaches. Although these Pikmin are not harmed by the whistle, they will follow the Beetle for a while and often wander into other hazards. Small clumps of rocks and patches of grass(appearing in both pikmin 1 and 2 can ... mesmerize pikmin.
  9. Sebadoh -- Eric Gaffney
The three guys from Sebadoh hadn’t played together in years, not since a falling out between the band members which left member Eric Gaffney incommunicado with the group for over a decade. Despite successful reunion tours in 2002 and 2003, the press expressed some concerns that the three rockers were just a bit too past their prime to put on a good live show together.
  10. Akon -- New Jersey
Akon has never been as popular as he is now. It's now been made law that all TV shows and radio stations aren't allowed to go more than 15 minutes without playing Akon going "woo-hoo" all over that new Gwen Stefani song, plus his latest album has sold over two million copies in America alone. That's not bad for man previously most famous for making up lies about Eminem.
