Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $5.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs. These include Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program; a statewide, voluntary pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds; and a wide range of technological and capital upgrades for the state’s schools, technical institutes, colleges, universities and public libraries.

Since 1993, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. More than $2.5 billion has been appropriated and distributed to over 700,000 HOPE Scholarship recipients. Over $2.1 billion has supported Georgia's Pre-kindergarten program with more than 500,000 four-year-olds having attended high-quality Pre-K programs throughout the state. Approximately $1.8 billion has improved Georgia schools through Capital Outlay initiatives and Technology Grants.

The Georgia Lottery Corporation made its first quarter FY2001 transfer to the Lottery for Education Account - bringing the total amount raised for education programs in Georgia to $4 billion! At the same time, the Governor recognized the 500,000th HOPE Scholarship recipient in Georgia.

Organized as a public corporation, the Georgia lottery is run by a seven-member board appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The lottery had gross revenues of approximately $2.2 billion last year, of which roughly $691 million went to education, she said.

Jim Sheets, 42, makes Georgia Lottery Corporation history by becoming the largest single winner for The Big Game.
