George Miller, born George Wade Dornberger, (February 17, 1950 - March 5, 2003) was a stand-up comedian. He first performed standup at age 21 and made his network television debut on The Tonight Show in 1976. He appeared on national television programs several times in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and was a friend to many in the West Coast comedy scene who later enjoyed tremendous success, including David Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld. He died on March 5, 2003, after a long bout with leukemia, from a blood clot in his brain.[1][2]

George Miller was the founder of WordNet, a linguistic knowledgebase that maps the way the mind stores and uses language. He spent the later part of his career building and expanding this database. He ... worked on a number of commercial applications based on WordNet, most notably, Simpli. Simpli was an early Internet search and marketing engine created by George Miller and a number of Professors and graduate students at Brown University, including Jeff Stibel, James A. Anderson and Steve Reiss. Simpli utilized WordNet to "read" search queries and disambiguate them. It was also used to read webpages and derive representative keywords so that advertising could be presented.

Mr. George Miller, a native of Monroe, Michigan, received a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1959. While at Michigan Tech, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and active in the AIChE Student Chapter. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and assigned to Keester Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi and finally to Headquarters 8th Air Force in Springfield Massachusetts. Leaving the Air Force in 1962, Mr. Miller joined Stauffer Chemical Company. Over the next several years, Mr. Miller worked in Sales and Product Engineering before being promoted to Regional Sales Manager and then Marketing Manager for Catalyst and Intermediates. In 1975 he became business Manager for this business group and Vice President for the Joint Venture Company, Texas Alkyls.

George Miller teaches courses in Milton and 17th-century British literature, Tennessee Williams and Film, and Biblical and Classical literature. He has published six books and about 200 articles in academic journals, popular magazines, and historical society journals and newsletters. A former Chair of the Department, he served in a wide range of administrative positions. He edits as well The Prentice Hall Reader, a widely-used Freshman English textbook, that has just appeared in its 7th edition (2003).

George Miller was born in Richmond, CA, on May 17, 1945 and lives in Martinez. He graduated from Diablo Valley Community College, San Francisco State University, and earned his law degree from the University of California, Davis, Law School. He served on the staff of then-State Senate Majority Leader George Moscone in Sacramento. He is married to Cynthia Caccavo Miller, a life-long resident of Contra Costa County. They have two sons, George and Stephen, and five grandchildren.

George Miller was born in 1880 near Sturgis, Michigan and was teaching in rural schools at the age of seventeen. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1900 and attended the University of Chicago from 1902-03 where he earned his Bachelor of Science and eventually his Master's degree in 1913. He completed much of the work necessary to get his Doctorate of Education from Michigan State Normal College, which is now Eastern Michigan University, but had to quit to earn a living. He was later awarded an honorary Doctorate of Education. He came to Mankato Normal School in 1913 where he had just been appointed head of what would eventually become the Department of Geography.
