George Michael: Album

George Michael's voice is an instrument -- a gift from above. He is able to sooth and comfort by singing absolutely anything. Some songs are more suited for his voice, but he can never sing anything badly. This album is great for days when you just want something to chill with. Great to hear George doing some other tunes.
Having long left behind his career with the memorable '80s act 'Wham!', George Michael has been a confusing public figure throughout his life as a solo artist, possibly known just as well for his scandals as he is his records. Despite this, he has endeavoured to remain politically outspoken, reflecting this in his songs wherever possible, and cheekily turning bad publicity into good. The tenth richest musician in Britain, he has admirably made the decision to stop selling albums following 'Patience' in 2004, with future releases available for download and an encouragement to donate to charity.

Yorgos Kyriatou Panayioutou (George Michael) achieved fame in the duo Wham in his native U.K. in 1982. Through 1986, he and his partner, Andrew Ridgeley, scored hit after hit in a variety of styles from rap to up-tempo pop to slow ballads. As songwriter and lead singer, Michael gradually overshadowed the group, and by the time they split, he was ready for a massively successful solo career. This began with the 1987 album Faith, which featured a series of chart-topping hit singles and sold more than seven million copies. That Michael had not achieved a similar critical success was evident from the title of his follow-up album, Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1, which must be considered a major commercial disappointment even though it sold a million copies, included two Top Ten hits, and hit number two. With Vol. 2 apparently shelved, Michael contributed several songs to the charity album Red Hot + Dance in 1992, and one of them, "Too Funky," reached the Top 20.
George Michael George Michael's brand of over-sexed, white boy soul defined the fantasy life of an entire generation of teenage girls. From the poppy, bubblegum lyricism of Wham! to later, more ambient fare, Michael has always had a finger on the pulse of pop (despite some lengthy hiatuses), sliding his silken vocals into a series of arousing, danceable albums.

The album contains songs chiefly from George Michael's solo career, but ... from his earlier days in Wham! and comes in two formats: 2 CDs or a limited edition 3 CD set. The 2 CD set contained 26 tracks, including 4 recorded with Wham! and 3 new songs: "An Easier Affair", "This Is Not Real Love" (a duet with Mutya Buena, formerly of Sugababes, which peaked at #15 in the UK Charts) and a new version of "Heal The Pain" recorded with Paul McCartney. "An Easier Affair" hit #1 in the UK dance charts and reached #13 in the UK singles chart upon physical release (downloads entered the charts at #74). The limited edition 3-CD version contains an additional 14 lesser known tracks, including one from Wham!
