While stealing computerized Syndicate secrets, minor hoodlum Tom Bachman (George Maharis) injures mob chieftan Matt Drake. With Drake hot on his trail, Bachman escapes to the jungles of Mexico --- where the IMF is waiting for him. Hoping to extract the aformentioned secrets from the fugitive crook, the IMF agents convince him that he has stumbled upon the fabled Fountain of Youth, which explains why Phelps, Willy, and Casey are made up to look like senior citizens. George Maharis gave a dynamic, magnetic, intense performance as Buz Murdock, and his leaving the show was devastating. Actors with similar temperaments who might have been interesting choices to replace him include Roy Thinnes, Michael Parks, Robert Blake, Scott Marlowe,Burt Reynolds or Robert Redford. All those actors were working as TV drama guest stars at the time, and one of them might have been available. But Glenn Corbett was far from a horrible choice. He gave Linc Case a sweetness and simplicity that were unusual and could be very touching. The character was extremely well conceived by Sterling Silliphant.

The Satan Bug was named after a Seventies telemovie starring George Maharis, Anne Francis and a sinister Richard Basehart in a race to find a planet-sterilizing super virus stolen from a U.S. bio-warfare lab. Little Loc had never actually seen the movie, but he'd run across the name in a copy of TV Guide and it sounded cool, so he used it for his digital creation. Satan Bug was the second virus he had electronically published. The first was named Fruitfly but it was a slow, tame infector so the hacker didn't push it.
