Winnipeg native George Knudson was Canada’s ambassador of golf. Lacking the physical size of a natural long-ball hitter, Knudson became a technician of the sport. So much so in fact, that on the PGA Tour (eight victories, $527,371 earned) fellow golfers would pause to watch the Canadian's swing.

George Knudson was a Canadian golf legend. His record of having won eight PGA tournaments still stands to this day amongst Canadian professional golfers. His premature death to lung cancer was mourned in Canada and throughout the North American golf fraternity.

George Knudson, who possessed one of the finest golf swings of all time, was one of the Canada's top PGA Tour professionals, winning eight tournaments in his 11-year career, more than any other Canadian before or since. At home, Knudson captured the CPGA Championship five times and was low Canadian professional at the Canadian Open on five other occasions.

Knudson ... tied for second in the 1969 Masters, one shot behind winner George Archer and in seven appearances at Augusta National, Knudson recorded three top-10 finishes, including a 10th in his first appearance in 1965. He was sixth the following year.
Roger Maltbie has often told a story of just how well Knudson could control the ball. Maltbie, a five-time PGA Tour winner and now a popular analyst on NBC’s golf coverage, was playing with Knudson in a tournament. He saw something special on three-straight holes.
