George H. W. Bush: Uss George H. W. Bush
built 290 days ago
According to Northrop Grumman, George H. W. Bush ... features the new bulbous-bow design, the second carrier to utilize that design. The new bow provides more buoyancy to the forward part of the ship and improves the hull’s efficiency. The design was first seen with the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), commissioned in 2003.

The design of the George H W Bush (CVN 77) carrier. The George H W Bush has the same new bulbous bow design that was used in the CVN 76 USS Ronald Reagan, commissioned in 2003. The bulbous bow reduces drag providing improved buoyancy to the forward end of the ship and improved hull efficiency. Other new design features include new propellers and new marine sewage system. The controls on the carrier's bridge and propulsion plant will be automated.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said the USS Bush will remind future generations President George H.W. Bush’s service. “And in the almost 6,000 men and women who will man this vessel, they will see the kind of courage that inspired a young George Bush to volunteer for the Navy on his 18th birthday,” Rumsfeld said.

On active duty from August 1942 to September 1945 during World War II, Bush flew torpedo bombers off the carrier USS San Jacinto. On September 2, 1944, Bush's plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire while making a bombing run over the Bonin Island of Chichi Jima, 600 miles south of Japan. Although the plane was afire and severely damaged, he completed his strafing run on a Japanese installation before flying towards the sea to bail out. Bush managed to bail out and was rescued by a Navy submarine, the USS Finback. Tragically, his two crew members were killed. Bush flew 58 missions.

When World War II broke out, Bush was determined to see military action. On June 12, 1942, shortly after graduation from Andover, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. At the age of twenty, he became the youngest commissioned pilot in Navy history. Bush was stationed in the Pacific theater and flew dozens of dangerous missions. On September 2, 1944, while Bush was assigned to the USS Jacinto, his plane was shot down near a Japanese island. Bush bailed out of the aircraft and was rescued at sea; his crewmen did not survive.

The Bush team wasted taxpayer money keeping the USS Abraham Lincoln idling offshore so Bush could land on it in a fighter jet and a flight suit. Bush used an expensive fighter jet to land, claiming that the aircraft carrier was out of helicopter range. But, of course, that turned out to be a lie.
