In 1964, Bush ventured into conventional politics by running against Democratic Senator Ralph Yarborough, making an issue of Yarborough's vote for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which almost all Southern politicians (including the Republican Sen. On 8SEP, 60 Minutes released some papers reportedly newly uncovered from one Jerry Killian, Bush's superior in the 1973 Air Guard. To date, all of the undoubtedly verified documents from Killian expressed praise and appreciation of the young Bush. These new documents purport to show a wholly different series of events, with Bush disregarding a direct order and Killian memorandizing some issues about concerns around Bush's attitude and possible pressure put on Killian from pulled strings.
