George Duncan is a former reporter and now an editorial writer. Although an avid golfer, his game was not nearly good enough to get him on the pro tour, so he became a writer instead.
Swan Bowls by Duncan George Duncan and Sons first opened in 1874 in Pittsburgh, PA. George Duncan assumed control of the Ripley Glass House and renamed it George Duncan and Sons. Unfortunately, George Duncan passed away in March of 1877. The company continued to grow under the leadership of George Duncan’s son, James Duncan. James Duncan later partnered with Ernest Miller and opened a new glass producing factory in Washington State. The Duncan Miller Glass Company continued producing high quality decorative glassware until 1955. These swans were made in variety of sizes and colors as gifts from the executive leadership of the Duncan Miller Company.

In 1874, Ernest Miller, became a designer for the company for the next fifty-two years. George Duncan died in 1877 and his sons took over the company. In 1892, a fire destroyed the Pittsburgh plant and they found land in Washington, Pa for the new factory. On January third, 1893 the new plant was finished and seventy of the employees of the old Pittsburgh factory relocated in Washington.
George Duncan was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1902. As a boy, he was taught the pipes by William MacLeod. He became a close friend of D.R. MacLellan, so he was surrounded by the best of music. For finishing, George went to Roddy Campbell from 1917 until his immigration to the United States in 1923.
George Duncan's Sons & Co. which has ... been known as Geo. A. Duncan & Sons (1893 - 1900). Some of their patterns were: Flowered Scroll, Duncan Flute, Zipper Slash, Grated Diamond & Sunburst, Paneled Diamond Block, Quartered Block, Diamond Block Band, Tepee, Scalloped Six-Point, Button Arches, Bassettown, Mardi Gras, Button Panels & Starred Loop.
