George Burns (January 20, 1896 - March 9, 1996) was a legendary American vaudeville comedian who went on to work in movies, radio, and early television. He was born as Nathan Birnbaum to Louis and Dorothy Birnbaum, the ninth of twelve children, in New York City, New York.
George Burns was born Nathan Birnbaum on January 20, 1896, in New York City. Burns began performing at the age of six, with a group of three other children, singing harmonies and calling themselves the Peewee Quartet. In the fourth grade, Burns quit school to go into show business full-time.

George Burns (George Henry Burns) was born on January 31, 1893 in Niles, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on April 14, 1914 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1914, his rookie year, he hit .291 with 5 home runs and 57 RBI. Burns played for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees over the course of his 16 year career.
