Geoffrey Bodine: Geoff Bodine
built 267 days ago
Racing three-wide, Geoffrey Bodine's truck went airborne at more than 190 mph. Morphing into a spiral of flames after it was struck by two other trucks, the vehicle headed toward a wall. Upon impact, chunks of the back end toppled over a debris catch fence and into the grandstands.
Directly across the way, Geoffrey Bodine sat at the rear of his transporter chatting with a couple of crew members. No television reporter hustled over to get his views about anything in racing. No writer stuck a tape recorder in front of his face.
Bodine escaped with a fractured arm, facial cuts, a bruised lip, a non-life-threatening head injury and a forearm injury during the inaugural Craftsman Truck Series at Daytona International Speedway last February. Doctors recently recommended he retire because of post-concussion syndrome. And the emotional scars have left an indelible impact on his family. The urgency in their voices calls for NASCAR to provide its own medical staff and safety crew to brace for worst-case scenarios.
After 1998, Bodine struggled in 1999. He was only able to muster a 35th place effort in the final standing again with no top tens, but this time, only four top 20s. The #11 team ... failed to qualify for 2 events and Paychex chose not to return at the end of the season.
--> Besides the switch to Joe Bessey's Chevrolet, the most difficult adjustment for Bodine will be getting people to use his preferred "Geoffrey" instead of "Geoff." "I just felt like it was time to put Geoff behind me. I've got a lot of laps behind me as Geoff Bodine -- this is a brand new start for us," said Bodine.
Bodine Announces Licencing Partner: Romawat Racing, makers of one-of-a-kind, custom stained glass artwork, is pleased to announce a licensing partnership with Brett Bodine Racing. As a result, they are now able to offer a beautiful stained glass panel of the NASCAR Winston Cup #11 Hooters Ford driven by Brett Bodine. The design shows the #11 Hooters Ford set into a checkered flag backdrop. The entire piece is constructed of high-quality art and cathedral glasses which were selected for their color, pattern, and reflective qualities. All work is done by hand and no piece gets released unless its meets meticulous standards. Because each glass is constructed by hand with carefully selected art glass, each piece is individually numbered and will be a unique and special work of art.
