Genital Herpes: Sores
built 614 days ago
Genital herpes may begin with an initial tingling, burning, or numb sensation, followed by clusters of small, painful, fluid-filled blisters. There may be fever and a generally sick feeling. HSV-2 blisters appear on the genitals, around the anus, and on the buttocks. Women may ... have painful sores on the vulva, on the cervix, and in the vagina. Eventually, the blisters are covered with a thin, yellow crust as they begin to dry, and the pain subsides. Genital herpes symptoms can occur repeatedly.

Herpes sores usually form around the genital area a few days after you are exposed to the virus. The sores usually start as tiny, clear blisters. When they break open, they form pink or red sores. These sores usually crust over and heal within two to 12 days. The blisters are usually in clusters, but you might have just one blister.

Genital herpes lesions usually appear within two to 10 days after being exposed to the virus, and can last from two to four weeks. First to appear are small red bumps, which develop into blisters. Then the blisters become open sores, which later dry up, crust over, and heal without leaving a scar. Sometimes a second crop of lesions appears.

If you have genital herpes, you can keep breastfeeding as long as the sores are covered. Herpes is spread through contact with sores and can be dangerous to a newborn. If you have sores on your nipple or areola, the darker skin around the nipple, you should stop breastfeeding on that breast. Pump or hand express your milk from that breast until the sore clears. Pumping will help keep up your milk supply and prevent your breast from getting engorged or overly full. You can store your milk to give to your baby in a bottle at another feeding.

Only Valtrex offers the convenience of once-daily dosing for the suppression of genital herpes outbreaks, as well as a three-day treatment for recurrent outbreaks of genital herpes. Cold sore sufferers can now experience the convenience of a one-day treatment with Valtrex. Treatment with Valtrex should be initiated at the first symptom of a cold sore. The efficacy of Valtrex has not been established when treatment is initiated after the development of clinical signs of a cold sore. Treatment should not exceed one day.

Many people have genital herpes but don't know it because they have no symptoms. Others have very mild symptoms. For the third group, who are symptomatic, the first outbreak is usually the worst. It lasts the longest, is most severe and often very uncomfortable. The initial sores can last five to ten days, first "weeping", then scabbing over, then healing. In addition to blisters or open sores, a person may have swollen glands, fever, and body aches.
