Genital Herpes: Hsv-2
built 614 days ago
You can prevent genital herpes by using a condom at all times during sexual intercourse. HSV-2 is contagious even when there are no noticeable blisters. If you are sexually active, be sure you are aware of your partner’s sexual history. If you have genital herpes, inform your partner. Make sure anyone with whom you have had a sexual relationship knows about your condition so they can seek treatment. Avoid contact with herpes blisters if you have herpes or know someone who does.

A nonprimary first-episode infection is a first genital HSV outbreak in a woman who has heterologous HSV antibodies. For example, if a woman develops a nonprimary first-episode HSV-2 infection on the labia, she would have antibodies against HSV-1 prior to and at the time of her genital outbreak. Because of the partial protection of the preexisting antibodies, these women tend to have fewer and shorter systemic symptoms.

Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of eight). This may be due to male-to-female transmission being more likely than female-to-male transmission.

These medications have been shown to speed the healing and resolution of symptoms in first attacks more than in recurrent episodes of genital HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections. These medications do not cure the herpes infection. Instead, they suppress the symptoms.
