General Hospital: Addition
built 257 days ago
The families of Port Charles bring style and substance to "General Hospital." The mighty Quartermaines are more involved than ever in affairs of the heart, and in the intricate business affairs of the community. Steel-handed Edward (John Ingle) and his gracious wife, Lila (Anna Lee), preside over family interests. Alan (Stuart Damon) and Monica (Leslie Charleson) are once again faced with tumultuous times, as their daughter Emily leaves town to recover from a near-fatal accident after falling for the rough-around-the-edges Zander Smith (Chad Brannon). AJ's (Billy Warlock) self-destructive behavior after losing Carly (Sarah Brown) to Port Charles crime lord Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) creates an alliance with the newest addition to the Quartermaine clan -- sister Skye (Robin Christopher), as he sets his sights on getting custody of his son Michael. Grandson Ned Ashton (Wallace Kurth) continues to be torn between family loyalty and the object of his affection -- Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), but their differing lifestyles will prove to be a challenge.

MedLINK Hospital will locate 60 long-term acute care beds and up to 160 nursing home beds in existing D.C. General space as soon as Spring of 2001. MedLINK later will occupy 100 or more beds in the new hospital (the 100 beds are in addition to the 190-bed general hospital facility). In addition to leasing space, MedLINK will contract for services from D.C. General, such as radiology, meals, laboratory, pharmacy and housekeeping. Overall, this will generate new revenues to the PBC exceeding $14 million.

Many of the citizens suffering from hypertension, asthma, cancer and diabetes live in the medically-underserved neighborhoods served by D.C. General Hospital and the PBC's Community Health Centers. Renewing and reforming D.C. General with the right services, accountability and an enhanced revenue stream are essential. In addition, implementation of afar more efficient primary care system at the neighborhood level is necessary to make sure that the District's underserved and indigent are provided the quality healthcare they deserve.
