All-in-all, Geneforge 2 is a great sequel which builds upon the original. The game ... stands on its own due to an engaging story, great writing, lots of skills to learn, and the ability to choose the way in which your character develops. For those who played the original, Geneforge 2 will feel like a comfortable pair of shoes. For those who have never played any of Jeff Vogel's games, Geneforge 2 will be a great introduction to what role-playing games should be like. Geneforge 2 is definitely worth the money and the time.

RPGDot: The first Geneforge had several endings. Will one of these endings have an effect on Geneforge 2 and if so, which one? How much has the first game affected the Shapers?

Geneforge 2 offers a number of changes and additions over its predecessor. Three new types of creations are available to players: massive Drakons; deadly, telepathic Gazers; and acidic, decaying Rotghroths. Several new spells are available, such as Kill and Aura of Flames. The skill Anatomy, which allowed the player to cause extra damage in melee combat, is replaced with Parry, which has a chance of blocking incoming attacks. The game engine itself... is essentially unchanged from the first game.

Graphics aside, Geneforge 2 is a terrific game to start with if you're fairly new to the RPG genre. It's easy to just dive in and start playing, and all the help you need is built into the interface - just a mouse-click away at all times. And the game's virtually bug-free. [Apr 2004, p.80]
