Gender comes from Middle English [G]endre, from Latin genus, all meaning "kind", "sort", or "type". Ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root gen, which is ... the root for "kind", "king" and many others. It appears in Modern French in the word genre (type, kind) and is related to the Greek root gen- (to produce), appearing in gene, genesis and oxygen. As a verb, it is used for to breed in the King James Bible:

Gender Discrimination In The Workplace - Wrongful Termination Gender discrimination in the workplace happens when an employee is treated differently because of his or her gender. Whenever gender discrimination in the workplace affects the terms and conditions of employment, it is against the law.
The feeling of being in the body of the "wrong" gender must persist for at least two years for this diagnosis to be made. The cause is unknown, but hormonal influences in the womb, genetics and environmental factors (such as parenting) are suspected to be involved. The disorder may occur in children or adults, and is rare.
A reader has pointed out that gender tests do not account for other types of developmental and neurological variability. For instance, someone with non-verbal develomental differences may have difficulty associating faces to things, including associating faces to names, and emotions to facial body language, etc. These are items upon which some gender tests base their questions and scores.

[O]thers insist that most of the impulse for “gender-corrected” scripture has come from liberals in the church. “The words that God has spoken have a meaning that should not be tampered with, no matter how strong the cultural winds blow,” says Dennis Rainey, executive director of FamilyLife, a major “parachurch” ministry based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Much of the support for “inclusive language,” he says, “comes at the beckoning call of the politically correct movement and feminists.”
