Geena Davis is an American actress well-known for her roles in Beetlejuice, The Fly, A League of Their Own, Thelma & Louise and The Accidental Tourist for which she won an Academy Award. She most recently won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of the first female President of the United States in ABC's short-lived series, Commander-in-Chief. An accomplished athlete, she placed in the finals for the 2000 Olympic Games in the women's archery category. She is ... an active spokesperson and founder of the SeeJane program which aims to increase the percentages of female characters in media made for children, and serves as a board member of the national non-profit Dads and Daughters organization.

FYI - This was not the first time that Geena Davis was the star of a TV show. At least ten years ago, she starred on a show called "Sara," an NBC comedy about lawyers in San Francisco. It lasted only one season but, unlike this show, was actually funny! Among the other cast members was Bill Maher in the "John Larroquette" (Night Court) part. Does anyone remember this show?

Atthe age of 46, the statuesque movie star was very pregnant -- make that very, very pregnant -- and driving with her husband, physician Reza Jarrahy, 31, near her home in San Diego. She could reach the nearest hospital in 10 minutes or turn the car onto the 5 freeway and drive two hours to the L.A. hospital where she'd undergone months of prenatal care. "They decided to take their chances and head to L.A.," says her dad, retired engineer William Davis, 88.

The Geena Davis Show premiered in October, 2000 on ABC. It made a strong debut following "Dharma & Greg," even after all the recasting, renaming and retooling the show went through to fit ABC\'s executives demands (the original version looked like a Sex and the City rip-off - which is understandable, considering that Terri Minsky used to write for the that show). Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis was the biggest attraction of the show, making to the cover of TV Guide\'s special fall 2000 edition, which ... featured John Goodman, Bette Midler and Michael Richards. Despite its strong debut, ratings dropped as the weeks went by and by March it was replaced by the new Joan Cusak comedy, "What About Joan". ABC eventually brought Geena back to air the remaining episodes, but the show wasn\'t renewed for a second season. Still, The Geena Davis Show managed to be nominated for Best New TV Comedy Series for the People\'s Choice Award and Geena Davis also got a nomination herself.
