1. Cascade Natural Gas -- Prices
   Natural gas prices have been increasing over the last few years all around the U.S., not just in California. The recent run-up in national natural gas prices is mainly occurring in the North American supply basins. The price increases are not specific to California as was the case during the 2000-2001 price spikes. In fact, California is actually enjoying lower natural gas prices than the U.S. average. 
2. Gas
   Gas is one of the four major states of matter, consisting of freely moving atoms or molecules without a definite shape and without a definite volume. Compared to the solid and liquid states of matter a gas has lower density and a lower viscosity. The volume of a gas will change with changes in temperature or pressure, as described by the ideal gas law. A gas ... has the characteristic that it will diffuse readily, spreading apart in order to uniformly fill the space of any container.
3. Prices
   Prices began to recover in early 1999 and OPEC reduced production another 1.719 million barrels in April. As usual not all of the quotas were observed but between early 1998 and the middle of 1999 OPEC production dropped by about 3 million barrels per day and was sufficient to move prices above $25 per barrel.
4. Oil Gas

5. Prices -- Demand
   Most of the other bird prices in the index remained even with last year's rates, thanks to steady supply and demand for Partridges, Turtle Doves, French Hens and Swans. Aside from the Geese-a-Laying, only the Calling Birds will cost more in 2007. PNC prices the Calling Birds from a national pet store chain, and prices for Calling Birds (or canaries) were up 25 percent this year, thanks to higher demand and increased shipping costs for retailers.
6. Prices -- Markets
   From 1982 to 1985, OPEC attempted to set production quotas low enough to stabilize prices. These attempts met with repeated failure as various members of OPEC produced beyond their quotas. During most of this period Saudi Arabia acted as the swing producer cutting its production in an attempt to stem the free fall in prices. In August of 1985, the Saudis tired of this role. They linked their oil price to the spot market for crude and by early 1986 increased production from 2 MMBPD to 5 MMBPD. Crude oil prices plummeted below $10 per barrel by mid-1986. Despite the fall in prices Saudi revenue remained about the same with higher volumes compensating for lower prices.

8. Commodities -- Prices
   From silver to soybeans, commodities are booming -- or at least they were until a nasty correction in February. Behind the run-up: A surge in crude-oil prices, coupled with demand from developing countries for raw materials. China's building boom, for example, has helped boost the price of copper, used in wiring and plumbing, by 48% over the past year. Sugar has nearly doubled on increased demand from countries that use it to produce ethanol. The Dow Jones-AIG Commodity index, which tracks 19 products, has nearly doubled since 2001.
9. Prices -- Companies
   Kroger is the nation's #1 pure grocery chain, but it still must watch out for falling prices; Wal-Mart has overtaken Kroger as the largest seller of groceries in the US. While Kroger has diversified through acquisitions, adding jewelry and general merchandise to its mix, food stores still account for about 85% of sales. The company operates about 3,650 stores, including nearly 2,470 supermarkets and multi-department stores, under two dozen banners, in about 30 states. It ... runs some 780 convenience stores under names such as Quik Stop and Kwik Shop. Kroger's Fred Meyer Stores subsidiary operates more than 120 supercenters, which offer groceries, general merchandise, and jewelry, in the western US.
10. Rates -- Washington Gas
    According to Lodging.com, Florida finishes first in terms of fluctuation, with rates increasing 80 to 90 percent. In Orlando, a $99 September rate rockets to $189 in March. In Miami Beach, a summer rate of $49 climbs to $89 during winter. On average, rates in Washington, D.C., increase about 75 percent, while Las Vegas, San Francisco, and other cities show increases closer to 50 percent.
