Kemp acknowledges the purity of the early moment for Spandau in his choice of tracks for Reformation: although the band released records until 1989, the collection stops at 1984, with their last LP for EMI, Parade. This is partly for contractual reasons - but mainly because Kemp accepts that, by that point, his work was done. Spandau had enormous worldwide success with the True and Parade albums, and in 1985 the band appeared at Live Aid.

After recording Spandau Ballet's final album, Kemp and his brother became actors. He won the contempt of his fellow band members, but good reviews for his performance as Ronnie Kray in The Krays (1991). Making this film was the death-knell to Spandau Ballet.

In the mid 90s Gary wrote and recorded the stunning solo album "Little Bruises". A very personal album based around the traumas in his personal life at the time. Songs from that album are as much loved by fans as those he wrote for Spandau Ballet.
