Garry Kasparov's opposition movement, co-wrote an article that alleged abusive practices at local psychiatric clinics. When Arap appeared at a Murmansk clinic to pick up a routine medical certificate July 5, a doctor called police and had her taken to a local asylum.
Kasparov made his international teams debut for the USSR at age 16 in the 1980 European Team Championship, and played for Russia in the 1992 edition of that championship. He won a total of five medals. His detailed Euroteams record, from [47], follows.
A fifth match between Kasparov and Karpov was held in Lyon and New York in 1990. Once again, the result was a close one with Kasparov winning narrowly by a margin of 12.5-11.5.
Kasparov is such a man! Wow! He's got some chutzpa to say what he feels and knows is right. He doesn't need Opra Winfrey to win an election. He is such a powerhouse and brilliant mind, and apparently, such an intellectual threat to Putin that he is locked up in jail like a criminal. The real criminals are the ones who put him behind those bars.
"This beautiful hardback book gives us 74 of Kasparov's games from the period 1973 - 1993. The author has done an excellent job of mixing sound analysis and annotation with free text that readily explains the critical points of the game being reviewed." Michael Blake, IECG

In January 1990 Kasparov achieved the (then) highest FIDE rating ever, passing 2800 and breaking Bobby Fischer's old record of 2785. He has held the record for the highest rating ever achieved, ever since (as of 2008). On the July 1999 FIDE rating list Kasparov reached a 2851 Elo rating, the highest rating ever achieved.[45]
