Gamespot: Reviews

Kane Didn't Gamespot post a review a couple of years ago that was based on the reviewer not playing the game for very long at all. The company cried foul, and they went and pulled the review and put a new one up?

Sure, Gamespot will still get paid by advertisers. Reviews from the site will be still be placed by companies on their games' boxes. You'll still make money. However, what will forever be in question is your integrity.

I’d like to give Gamespot the benefit of the doubt, but things are currently stacked against them, and no one is really doing a good job of defending them. Certainly we’ll never know the truth for sure, but right now it’s looking a lot like the truth is Gamespot management wants to avoid giving well advertised games poor reviews, and Jeff was the scapegoat to that effect. Unfortunately for them, they seem to have not realized the realities of trying to execute such a policy without destroying their credibility.
Gamespot clearly lacks the integrity necessary, if they chose to fire a writer based on a negative review of a client's products. They pay him to create content - not to report the company line. It's fundamental.

: Next week's desperate attempt at a patch-up: Gamespot: Gerstmann? Yeah, good man, good man. Right up until he threatened to pipe-bomb the office! SRSLY-right after he reviewed Kane & Lynch, too...had to let him go. more»
